First light with the Scorpio 3 nm “Golden” Dual-Band Filter

One of my favorite winter targets, captured over six nights in late November / early December 2024 from my Williamsburg backyard. This 26 h 50 min integration shows the iconic Horsehead (Barnard 33) in silhouette against the glowing IC 434 emission nebula, with the bright Flame Nebula (NGC 2024) and reflection nebula NGC 2023 just to the left. The faint IFN (integrated flux nebula) is also visible in the background.

Gear used

  • Sky-Watcher Evostar 80ED + 0.85× reducer
  • ZWO ASI2600MC Pro
  • Sky-Watcher HEQ5 Pro
  • New Scorpio Ha + OIII 3 nm “Golden” dual-band filter

This was the very first light with this filter and I’m really impressed with the contrast and halo control the “golden” version delivers for the price. I put it through its paces and made a full review video below.
